Azure Blue is Blue Care’s landmark integrated community development in Redcliffe, north of Brisbane. Consisting of three separate integrated living low rise buildings and a high care hospital, the facility includes 122 apartments, 96 hospital beds, commercial kitchen and laundry, café and bar, auditorium and recreational facilities. Azure Blue is dedicated to independent community living in a safe and supported environment. With building management system (BMS), backup essential power via generators, a fully integrated data and communications system and electronic building access, the facility provides all level of care services that can be accessed as and when they are needed. The neighbouring assisted living buildings were designed to accommodate those in wheelchairs or motorised walkers and incorporate a fully functional intercom system to accommodate meal ordering, nurse assistance and programmed viewing entertainment.

The introduction of building monitors around the site ensured that noise and vibration emission were measured and reported, and neighbouring houses and business remained unaffected.

The detailed programme required careful management to ensure adherence to milestone targets, which Hutchies met even when the project was impacted by severe flooding. Although the project was delivered as construct only, value adding changes, additions and amendments to design resulted in a superior finish and ease of operations. Among our recommended improvements was a complete redesign of the structural basement and podium slab, which delivered both time and cost savings.
